Pasadena Language Center offers Hebrew lessons for adults at all levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and conversation. About the Hebrew Language
Hebrew is a Semitic language of the Afro-Asiatic language family. Culturally, it is considered a Jewish language. Hebrew in its modern form is spoken by many of the seven million people in Israel while Classical Hebrew has been used for prayer or study in Jewish communities around the world for over two thousand years. It is one of the official languages of Israel along with Arabic.
Curriculum and Structure
The Hebrew weekly classes are structured into three levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced. Each level is divided into four sub-levels: A, B, C, and D.
For the Beginner levels we use "Complete Modern Hebrew" by Teach Yourself.
Beginner A (Lessons 1-3)
Topics: reading and writing Hebrew, greetings and introductions, making an appointment, asking for directions
Grammar: simple questions, affirmative and negative statements, prepositions, personal pronouns, definite article, conjunctions, noun gender, demonstratives, time words, present tense of verbs (group 1), cardinal numbers (1-20), etc.
Beginner B (Lessons 4-6)
Topics: at the restaurant, family and plans, shopping
Grammar: particles, plural of nouns, adjectives, there is/there isn't, expressing possession, question words, word pairs, "to be able to", the impersonal form, numbers 11-1,000, etc.
Beginner C (Lessons 7-9)
Topics: making arrangements, telling the time, on the road, houses and homes
Grammar: group 2 of verbs, direct object pronouns, dual ending, expressing age, days of the week, ordinal numbers, comparisons, adverbs of direction, months, seasons, festivals, group 3 of verbs, superlatives, the past tense of group 1 & 2 verbs, prepositions with pronominal endings, noun patterns, professions, etc.
Beginner D (Lessons 10-14)
Topics: sports and culture, the weather, driving, at the doctor's, color, moods and emotions, media and communications
Grammar: past tense of group 3 verbs, past tense of "to be", prepositions with endings, group 4 of verbs- present and past tenses, conjunctions, future tense, the imperative, parts of the body, group 5 of verbs, forming adjectives from verbs, adverbs, nouns with pronoun endings, etc.
