Pasadena Language Center offers Romanian lessons for adults at all levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and conversation. Learn Romanian in a comfortable, casual environment and make it a fun, enriching experience! About the Romanian Language
Romanian (obsolete spellings Rumanian, Roumanian; self-designation: limba română [ˈlimba roˈmɨnə] or Daco-Romanian is a Romance language spoken by around 24 to 28 million people, primarily in Romania and Moldova. It has official status in Romania, Republic of Moldova, and the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in Serbia. In the Republic of Moldova, the language is officially called limba moldovenească ("Moldovan") for political reasons.
Curriculum and Structure
The Romanian weekly classes are structured into three levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced. Each level is divided into four sub-levels: A, B, C, and D.
For the Beginner levels we use "Colloquial Romanian" by Routledge.
Beginner A (lessons 1-5)
Topics: greetings and introductions, at the airport, on holiday, telling time, at the restaurant
Grammar: useful verbs a fi, a avea, a sta, a face, a locui, numbers, positive and negative forms, definite and indefinite articles, the noun, asking for and getting directions, days of the week, expressing a wish, past tense, adjectives, possessive adjectives, the future tense, the points of the compass, essential adverbs, the conditional mood, etc.
Beginner B (lessons 6-10)
Topics: the weather forecast, at the post office, shopping, buying a new car, first revision (traveling by train)
Grammar: other ways of expressing future, the weather, prepositions, time expressions, months and seasons of the year, the case system, the 4 groups of verbs (present and past tense conjugations), adjective agreement, comparison of adjectives and adverbs, demonstrative adjectives, direct object pronouns, reflexive verbs, family tree, etc.
Beginner C (lessons 11-15)
Topics: trouble at home, friends, a visit to the doctor, the dream, at the market
Grammar: indirect object pronouns, "să" clauses, interjections, reflexive verbs, the use of passive voice, commands and the imperative, the possessive article, agreement of adjectives, the past conditional and imperfect tenses, the preposition "pe", adverbs, the past historic tense, etc.
Beginner D (lessons 16-20)
Topics: gossip, sports, a new house, bedtime story, final revision
Grammar: how to say "who", "which", "whom", "to whom", "each", the conditional, superlatives, reported speech, the pronoun "the other", the pluperfect tense, ordinal numbers, prepositions, the present participle, past participles, presumptive statements, result clauses, temporal conjunctions, etc.
